The Library of Congress is the largest library in he world.It contains approximately 530 miles of bookshelves and houses nearly 19 million books. It adds about 10.000 items to its collection every day. It also has the world’s largest collection of cartographic materials (maps) (4.9 millions itmes.)
Half of the library`s collections are in languages other than English. Materials in 460 languages include not only the largest collection of Russian language materials outside Russia, but also the most important collection of Chinese, Japanese and Korean materials outside Asia.
The Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the United States.
